About the Event
On June 18, 2019, the Federal Black Employee Caucus (FBEC) held a meeting of its members at 90 Elgin Street, Ottawa. Treasury Board President, Joyce Murray and Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board and Parliamentary Black Caucus Chair, Greg Fergus, addressed members with messages of support.
FBEC provided updates on our latest initiatives to work with organizations to help achieve the government’s diversity and inclusion goals as part of its commitment to the United Nations Decade for People of African Descent including:
- Meeting with Canada’s Chief Human Resource Officer to ensure the Government of Canada’s new wellness strategy specifically considers the needs of Black federal employees.
- Successfully advocating that the Public Service Employee Survey include an option for visible minority employees to identify which visible minority groups they belong to.
- FBEC’s recent presentation to the RCMP’s top 45 executive members, including Commissioner, Brenda Lucki.
The main focus of the event was on getting the word out about the importance of filling out, and self-identifying on, the 2019 Public Service Employment Survey being conducted from July 22 to August 30, 2019. FBEC’s Natalie Taite also encouraged members to tell their own stories to continue to back up the quantitative data with qualitative data.
The President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), Debi Daviau; Larry Rousseau, Executive Vice President of the Canadian Labour Congress; and Canada’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Nancy Chahwan also addressed participants.
